Capitol Life Recap

“Well, hello there Washington Monument.  Fancy meetin’ you here!”

I get a slight kick out of telling people I live in the Capitol.  It sounds much cooler than saying I live in DC.  Anyways, as typical of my life, I’ve been causing trouble while sporting awesome outfits.  Whether it’s dancing on a bar or climbing to the roof of the Smithsonian Castle, I never sit still.

“I can see the Capitol from up here!”

Yes.  Here I am chilling on the Castle roof in my giant sunglasses (Urban Outfitters).  You can’t tell, but I am also wearing a dress and heels.  Soooo, again, I think I’d make a fantastic spy.  I mean, not everyone can climb ladders in heels!

Anyways, while I have enjoyed my time in the Capitol, I’m starting to think it may not be my city for much longer.  I could be mistaken, but I’m starting to think my time here is drawing to a close.  DC and I have had our moments that I will always cherish, and I plan on having a few more months romancing the city….But I foresee a new adventure in my near future.

Mmmmmm….

Fourth

Ohhh-la-la!  I hope everyone has had a lovely and restful and relaxing July Fourth!  I’ve spent most of mine laying out by the pool and eating fried food and drinking coffee.  Later I will be basking in the glow of the Capital’s fireworks in my pool roof.

Be jealous.  Be very jealous.

Cheers!

Vest II

After spending all day in DC with my vest, I just knew I needed to wear it out on the town. So here is a lovely snapshot of my day to night transformation!

(Grunge much? Kinda something new I am trying out…. (says the girl who then sported a Barbie pink top and white jeans the following night….))

Anyways, turns out this vest WAS the talk of Adams Morgan nightlife.  Note the following creepy, stalker conversation:

Guy:  Hey, were you just at McNasty’s?

Me:  Yessss…….why?

Guy:  Oh, well, you were that girl wearing that denim vest.

Me:  I’m still wearing it.  And what do you mean, “that girl?”

Guy:  I mean, we were all chatting about how awesome it was.

Me:  Ohhh..ok…

So BAM!

{Outfit} Vest

A couple of years ago, I went through this BIG denim obsession faze.  Nylon had done an article about the upcoming trend for Fall 2010, DOUBLE DENIM.

At first, I despised the thought of wearing denim on denim, but then I got on board.  Before long, I was trying to see how much denim I could wear at once (four was the best I could get and still look cute:  jeans, denim jacket, denim shirt and denim flats….).

While I have moved forward, the one thing I refuse to give up from my denim obsession faze is my thrifted denim vest.  It’s too awesome!  The cut!  The wash!  It’s simply, one-of-a-kind….(my mother actually helped me find this while we were out and about).

And since I don’t really work in an office on “The Hill,” I luckily get to sport my eclectic style pretty much everyday.  Sucks to suck government interns having to wear your boring black on black suits!  I’ll stick with my arts internship/job at Urban Outfitters and call it a day.

(At least for the time being….)

Actually, I am a tad bit jealous of those interns in their work wear…  They can wake up in the morning, open their closet and pick out an outfit from a limited amount of pieces.

As for me, I wake up in the morning, pour myself a cup of coffee while checking my email, open up my closet, go over in my head my schedule of the day and attempt to figure out what’s appropriate for my day.

Heels?  Nahh, I’m going to be walking to Bloomingdale today.  Black jeans?  Yea, I’m heading to visit an artist.  Denim vest?  But of course because I don’t have to work in the Capital!

Oh the life I live….as a hipster in DC….

It’s been one week, and I have already been causing some mischief in DC.  I spent most of last week running around and exploring the town.  But due to my distaste for sensible walking shoes, my feet aren’t happy with me…Oh well, aren’t you supposed to suffer a little bit for style??

During my explorations, I have discovered that each neighborhood of DC has its own vibe.  Whether it’s the hipsters of Bloomingdale drinking coffee at Big Bear Cafe, the frat stars of Georgetown sipping bourbon at The Tombs or the political folks enjoying happy hour around the Capital, it seems there’s a little something for everyone.

And luckily for me, my art appreciation side is jumping for joy with the start of my internship.  For those that don’t know, I am interning with an arts non-profit web journal, The Studio Visit, where I am getting to “try on” many different hats.

Now I’m going to go work and shock some of the conservative dressed folks with my red pants!

PS:  I PROMISE I will find an outside location for photos soon…

PPS:  I’ve been browsing a few men’s fashion blogs, so be forewarned that my style might take a menswear-inspired dive….
